Our definition of security audit is a systematic and independent effort to objectively assess the degree of compliance and fulfillment of agreed requirements. The main sources of information security requirements include legal, internal and external regulations, contractual obligations and results of risk assessment. Depending on the nature of business, some requirement sources may be mandatory for an organization. A perfect example here might be the Law on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data. Another example might be an internal regulation such as security policy defining requirements for particular security measures in the organization.
